4-H AND FAIR PICTURES
Danny and I joined the Cock-A-Doodle-Moo 4-H club in the fall of 2001. Our club is located in Storrs, CT and does all animals from oxen and horses down to mice and lizzards, with everything in between. The club has been in existence for 30 years or more and is headed by Carolyn Stearns of Mountain Dairy. We started out in 2001 with 4 rabbits and 1 chicken. Dan now shows rabbits, poultry, swine, mice, reptiles, and hedgehogs. He usually enters about 20 rabbits, 20 chickens, turkeys and gunnia fowl, 2 pigs, 4 mice, 3 anoles, and 2 hedgehogs. Getting everyone there and back is always a challange. For other fairs we just do the rabbits, poultry and pigs. Many of our rabbits are for sale at the fairs.
Our 4-H club is part of Tolland County. However, in 2008, Dan brought his rabbits and poultry to the Windham County 4-H Fair and competed for Premier Showmanship for the first time. He came in 3rd out of 7. He showed his pigs, mice, lizards and hedgehogs to the Tolland County 4-H Fair. In 2003 He won Reserve Champion with his red mini-rex Gohan. In 2004 he won Grand Champion Pure Bred with his opal mini-rex Gandalf and Grand Champion Standard Chicken with Sandy. In 2005 Gandalf won Grand Champion again. In 2006 his Ruby-Eyed White mini-rex Earthwhite won Grand Champion. In 2008 Basil Staghare, his Belgian hare, won Grand Champion and Milkyway, his chocolate mini-rex won Reserve Champion.
